QuestAG!

Client: Atarashii Gakko!, 88rising, Microsoft

2023

Overview

Designed an AI-powered open world video game RPG with Japanese girl group ATARASHII GAKKO! where fans generate their own adventure

We created the world’s first interactive story powered by Azure OpenAI Service – where fans decide how the adventure unfolds. Partnering ATARASHII GAKKO! with Microsoft, we built a custom website powered by GPT3.5 that allows fans to play a text-based roleplaying game, one where players type out their actions while the AI reacts to them and narrates the story.

In the game, ATARASHII GAKKO! — whose group has long championed positivity the power of friendship — lean on players to defeat five unique Monsters of Fear: the Dragon of Envy, the Goliath of Laziness, the Serpent of Loneliness, the Kraken of Self-Doubt, culminating in a final boss battle with Fear Itself. The experience features two different endings, depending on the success of the player’s choices — one good ending, and one ultra ending.

The release of “QuestAG!” marks the first time a music artist has collaborated with Azure OpenAI Service to create a video game.

We commissioned the art, created the BTS featurette, developed the narrative and trained the model to create custom AI responses that brought them through the journey.

Content Feature

Game Experience

We created unique story chapters and bosses for each member of the group, training the GPT model with a narrative world that players could unlock and explore.

Using ChatGPT, the site narrative the story as you play and reacts to what you want to do or say.

Players could respond to story prompts in any way they desired, and their answers could even create custom pixel art illustrations through DALL-E image generation.

New chapters were rolled out over the course of five months, inviting fans to return to the quest.
